Accessibility

Middle-earth Enterprises LLC is committed to making this site usable by as many people as possible, including those who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, keyboard navigation, and screen magnifiers. We build accessibility in by default rather than hiding it behind a setting, because the people who need it most - for example, screen-reader users - cannot, and should not, be detected by a website.

Built in for everyone

These work automatically, with no setting to turn on:

  • Full keyboard access with a visible focus outline, so you can see where you are as you tab through the page.
  • A “Skip to content” link (press Tab when a page loads) that jumps past the header and navigation.
  • Descriptive labels and alternative text on buttons, icons, images, and form fields, so screen readers can announce them.
  • Meaningful structure - headings, landmarks, and a single main region on every page - for easy navigation by assistive technology.
  • Dialogs and overlays that manage focus correctly: focus moves into them, stays within them, returns where it started on close, and Escape closes them.
  • Adequately sized tap targets and pinch-zoom that is never disabled, so you can magnify the page.
  • Status messages and errors announced to screen readers as they appear.

Automatic adjustments from your device

If you have set a preference in your operating system or browser, the site respects it without any action on your part:

  • Reduced motion - if your device requests reduced motion, we calm or remove animations and scrolling effects.
  • Increased contrast - if your device requests higher contrast, we strengthen our secondary text accordingly.

Accessibility mode

For extra control, you can also turn on Accessibility mode, which applies larger text, calmer motion, and stronger focus and contrast across the whole site regardless of your device settings. We remember your choice for next time.

The standard we follow

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. The site has been reviewed against these guidelines and we believe it substantially meets them, with continued work on the areas below.

Known limitations & ongoing work

Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We are still refining a few areas - including some decorative, low-contrast text in the default (non-high- contrast) theme and the richly animated interactive scenes on member profiles - and we test and improve continuously. If a particular area is getting in your way, please tell us and we will prioritize it.
