The Gray Circle - David Newton, Andrew Savage, Yuri Tanaka and Thomas Gray - is a London-based moving image and projection design company with an international client base. Founded in 1998 by Thomas Gray, the company draws on collective talent to combine imagination with digital technology, creating moving imagery for performing arts and corporate communications. Yuri Tanaka joined TGC in 2002 working as designer and art director. Current and recent stage productions include; Dirty Dancing by Eleanor Bergstein, directed by Paul Garrington, designed by Stephen Brimson-Lewis, at the Theater Neue Flora, Hamburg, Germany. Wagner's Twilight Of The Gods directed by Phyllida Lloyd, designed by Richard Hudson at the English National Opera, London. 3 Musketiere: Das Musical directed by Paul Eenens, designed by Eric van der Palen at the Theater des Westens, Berlin, Germany transferring to Stuttgart November 2006. Unprotected directed by Nina Raine, designed by Miriam Buether at the Liverpool Everyman Playhouse, transferring to Edinburgh August 2006. Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials directed by Nicholas Hytner, designed by Giles Cadle at the Royal National Theatre, London; the opera Macbeth by Ernest Bloch, directed by Keith Warner, designed by Es Devlin, performed at the Klang Bogen Wien, Vienna, Austria and the DV8 Physical Theatre productions Bound To Please and Happiest Day Of My Life, world tours.
Other projects include a 300 degree circular video screen for LG Electronics at Comdex, in Las Vegas; working with Exhibit Group Giltspur and circus performers in designing a performance installation for the Samsung Pavilion at the Summer Olympics, Sydney, Australia; directing a film with h2dance commissioned by Arts Council England and creating film installations for Diesel Jeans (London Fashion Week) and Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising.
Upcoming projects include Memory Puzzle, Ming-Shen Ku Dance, opening November 2006, Taipei, Taiwan.
